Access Physicians and Cuero Regional Launch Tele-Pulmonary and Critical Care Service

Partnership is hospital’s third telemedicine service line with Access Physicians
Cuero Regional Hospital has added a third telemedicine service line in partnership with Access Physicians, a division of SOC Telemed. Beginning September 29, Access Physicians’ board-certified pulmonary and critical care specialists are available 24/7 to support on-site care of patients requiring an ICU level of care, such as the need for mechanical ventilation, congestive heart failure, serious infections, and other life-threatening conditions.
“There’s never been a more critical time to have the highest level of specialty care provided close to home,” said Lynn Falcone, CEO, Cuero Regional Hospital. “Hospital ICU bed capacity throughout the state is almost nonexistent because of the COVID-19 surge, and through this telemedicine partnership, we can care for more patients in our hospital and not have to transfer them to Victoria, San Antonio, Houston, or even further afield.”
Through the telemedicine partnership, health care providers at Cuero can connect with an Access Physicians board-certified pulmonary and critical care specialist via secure, high-resolution technology in minutes. On-site respiratory therapists, nurses, and other physicians have access to the highest level of consultation to diagnose and treat the most seriously ill patients and not have to transfer them to other hospitals. Access Physicians has worked with the clinical and operational teams at the hospital to ensure on-site resources are available and capable of supporting such a high level of care.
Since 2019, Cuero has partnered with Access Physicians to provide tele-cardiology to patients needing inpatient cardiac care and pre-surgical evaluations. The hospital added tele-psychiatry in late 2020.
“We partner with Access Physicians to build telemedicine programs that work for our clinicians, patients, and community,” said Falcone. “Together, we are fostering Cuero’s vision of being our community’s first choice for health and wellness by consistently exceeding expectations.”
“Access Physicians prides itself on working with forward-thinking hospitals to enhance the delivery of clinical excellence locally,” Chris Gallagher, M.D., president, Access Physicians, a division of SOC Telemed. “Cuero Regional is exemplary in its commitment to patient care, and we are thrilled to be their partner. The addition of tele-pulmonary and critical care to the service lines will only enhance the level of care and commitment Cuero-area patients can expect to get from their local hospital.”
