Cuero Community Hospital Rates High on CMS Hospital Compare Release

Hospital news | Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Cuero Community Hospital received 4 stars out of 5 on the patient survey summary and scored higher than the National Average in most areas addressed by the survey that was released this month for the first time. DeWitt County and the surrounding areas are benefitting from the "Greater Together" concept that is spear heading Cuero Community Hospital and its clinics and staff to address patient care experience and provide quality care.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced star ratings on Hospital Compare, the agency's public information website. The Hospital Compare website is geared to make it easier for consumers to choose a hospital and understand the quality of care they deliver. The ratings build on a larger effort across the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to build a health care system that delivers better care, spends health care dollars more wisely, and results in healthier people.

The Hospital Compare star ratings relate to patients' experience of care at almost 3,500 Medicarecertified acute care hospitals and are just one example of how CMS is committed to helping consumers make informed health care decisions. The ratings are based on data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey (HCAHPS) measures that are included in Hospital Compare. HCAHPS have been in use since 2006 to measure patient's perspectives of hospital care, and includes topics like: how well nurses and doctors communicated with patients, how responsive hospital staff were to the patient's needs, and how clean and quiet hospital environments were.
