Patients at Cuero Regional Hospital have a new way of staying connected to their medication treatment plan after discharge from the hospital: a new prescription text service (Rx Notifications from DrFirst). It has been implemented and the text is delivered to those that have provided their cell phone number.

Upon discharge from the hospital, those that have provided their cell number will receive a text message 10 minutes after their e-prescription is sent to their pharmacy to let them know it is being processed, along with a link to a secure website with more information about their medication(s).

According to the Drfirst.com website, e-prescribing is growing rapidly, not just because the technology has improved, but because of the substantial benefits for patients and physicians. Every state in the U.S. now allows e-prescribing. “Given the e-prescription benefits to our patients, it is simply good medicine for Cuero Regional Hospital to implement this follow-up text service to help keep our patients informed, as well as continue to educate them on the medications they are taking,” said Lynn Falcone, CEO of Cuero Health.

The text notification also includes a link to a secure website that has information on the pharmacy, the prescription details – drug name, strength and quantity, educational materials including a library of over 600 videos, co-pay or out- of-pocket costs or financial discounts available, plus the option to schedule the prescription pick up with the pharmacy.

There is an opt out option for patients that do not wish to receive the texts. Patients can reply “STOP” to any text message they receive from this service and this will place their number on the “do not contact list.” They will be unsubscribed from receiving future notifications.
