New Outpatient PICC-Line Insertion Services
Contact: Lynn Falcone, CEO
Cuero, Texas: Cuero Regional Hospital is now offering PICC (peripherally inserted central-line catheters) line insertion services in their Day Surgery Department.
The hospital currently has Jennifer Janssen, RN,BSN and Becky Mikesh, RN, two trained nursing professionals on staff performing PICC line insertions Monday through Friday.
PICC lines benefit patients needing long-term intravenous access for antibiotics, chemotherapy, and blood draws, to name a few.
PICC lines can be in place from a couple of days up to a year which helps to prevent patients from multiple intravenous (IV) starts. A PICC line can avoid an invasive surgical procedure required to place a long term central catheter since it is safely placed at the bedside by a specially trained nurse.
"Many patients like the benefit of a PICC and avoiding the pain involved in repeated punctures with short term intravenous (IV) starts". The goal is to deliver vascular access to patients needing certain medical needs in a safe, non-invasive method that can give patients a quick return to normal activities, said Jennifer Janssen, ICU/PACU/Day Surgery Director at Cuero Regional Hospital.
